False Positive Issues

Sometimes when the scan finishes and shows you a list of files marked as “unused,” some of those files may actually be used by your site. Deleting them can result in media disappearing from your pages. When this happens, it’s simply because Media Cleaner doesn’t recognize how that specific media is being used.

Step 1: Understand how the media is used

Go to the post where the image is missing and check how the image is used. Is it referenced directly in the content? Is it being loaded by a third-party plugin (like a gallery), a widget, a theme feature, or a page builder?

Step 2: Check if the plugin/theme is supported

Go to the Parsers tab in the Media Cleaner settings and check if the plugin, builder, or theme you’re using is listed.

  • If it’s not listed: Media Cleaner doesn’t currently support it.
  • If it is listed but the image is still flagged as unused: the parser may be outdated or not working properly.

If Media Cleaner has no Parser for your use case

➤ For well-known plugins (10,000+ active installs)

Let us know via support, and we’ll evaluate the possibility of adding a parser. Once tested, it will be made available to all users.

➤ For lesser-known or custom plugins

If you’re using a niche or custom plugin, it’s best to contact that plugin’s developer and ask them to add support for Media Cleaner.

If you have technical knowledge, you can also create your own parser. Here’s a template to get started.

If Media Cleaner has a Parser but not working

Contact us via support with all the necessary details:

  • Which plugin/builder/theme you’re using
  • Clear steps to reproduce the issue using a new post
  • Screenshots if needed, this helps us reproduce the issue and fix the parser accurately.
